DIY & REUSE

Transforming Jeans into Skirt - FRONT

Browsing different websites for ideas on sewing projects, I found two treasures. First, a series of video made by freelancer in youtube, Threadheads. You could watch their videos and leave comments on
http://www.threadbanger.com/

In their videos, there are loads of ideas and basics on sewing, kniting, crocheting, reconstructing your t-shirts tutorials, etc.
It ticks to think about how to reuse materials we have already possessed. I'm not someone who would protest about saving the environment but I do feel there is a need to reduce the things I would buy and reuse the things I owned monetarily-wise and space-saving-wise.

The second treasure is the discovery of swap-o-rama-rama created by Wendy Tremayne from New York. Unfortunately, it has only be held in the USA until now. I'd love to see if anyone, from the UK, esp. London, are interested in holding the same events. It'd be great to help holding such events, or if anyone you know anything similar is going on locally, please let me know.

The feature picture is of the skirt I have made out of a pair of old, unfit jeans and also some new polka dots fabric. The whole Cut-and-Sew ideas were inspired by instructions from Applehead,
How to ....make jeans into skirt!
However, I did make some alterations for my own use. I wanted to wear it with leggings that's why I only make one frill to keep the skirt short, which is about 3.5 or 4 inches above knees.
Besides, I keep pockets (within and the back) so I didn't cut the jeans as short as described.
Lastly, I doubled length of jeans edge, i.e. refered as 'full measure of bottom of jeans yoke' in STEP 3, for the length of my frill to get a fuller skirt.(but Applehead only add half of the length, see her description if you don't understand what I'm saying).

I guess you are as eagar as I did to make a skirt of your own after reading all the links I gave you! Please do send me some pictures of your finished items or tutorials of other projects if you had any!

Love ya all. Bye by now.
